Blog Invites!

Dear family,

I've invited 60 van Heemstras to read and respond to this blog!

If you think I've forgotten anyone, please email me or comment on this post with your family member's name and email address, and I will add them to my list and invite them to the blog.

Thank you!  Theresa

officiele reunie informatie

Almost-Official Reunion Information!

So far, the almost-official reunion information is as follows:

The American van Heemstras (Hester, Theresa, Anna; Maria, Renee, Francisco; and their various partners) miss you all and would love to come see you in the Netherlands.  We also realize that it's been over five years and time for the next reunion.

Thus, we are planning a family reunion at Eysingastate, in our native province of Friesland, for the first weekend in July.

This park offers:
-a camping area for around 100 tents (a section can be reserved for "van Heemstras", if necessary)
-8 cabins for 4 to 5 people
- 3 types of Bungalows (on Eysingastate website):
  • 2 farmhouses with thatched roof for 8 people each (the most expensive of the bungalows)
  • 50 other houses for 6 people each
  • 2-3 smaller houses for 4 people each (A-shaped)

Maria is negotiating with the owner for prices, and can get some lower prices for our group once we know roughly how many people will attend.

So... If you will be able to join us, please click below to add your name to the Doodle list; check the dates you are available. Later you will make your own reservations direclty through the website of the camping.

***
For joint activities (music, dancing, games, meals etc) there is a big farmhouse which is a restaurant (but it is open to the public). There is also a separate dining area for around 50 people.

Bikes, boats, etc are also available.

Distance from Schiphol for those coming by train: 2 hr by train to Hereveen + 1/2 hour bus ride.

kick-off post!

Dear Van Heemstra family,

Welcome to the blog for the 2013 van Heemstra family reunion!  I'm setting this blog up for a few reasons:
* for people to get more information as we plan the reunion
* to plan activities
* to post links for the reunion site and places to go/things to do nearby
* Since this blog is hosted through google, there will probably be an easy way to hit a button to translate the whole thing into garbled Dutch, if that sounds good to you :)  Sorry, I'll work on my Nederlands skills between now and then.

I hope that you'll sign up to post and comment too and check back regularly for new information; we'll try to keep it updated between now and the reunion date.
